I had a pleasant overnight stay at Highfield House Hotel. The friendly and helpful staff, along with a comfortable bed and a delicious full English breakfast, were definite highlights. However, the hotel decor could use some updates and attention to cleanliness in certain areas detracted from the overall experience.
Rooms

The room was clean and comfortable with a nice hot bath. I did have a slight issue with some dirt on the windowsill, but overall, I slept well during my stay, which is what counts.
Service
8.0
The reception staff were truly wonderful! They assisted with my printing issues and made check-in smooth. I also appreciated the little gestures, like helping with luggage, which made my stay more comfortable.
Location
8.0
The hotel is in a great location, close to pubs, restaurants, and shops, making it convenient for dining. It was also not too far from the port, which was ideal as I was going on a cruise the next day.
Dining

Breakfast was a highlight, with great variety including a full English spread. The staff were attentive and helped keep our coffee cups filled, which I appreciated!
Facilities

Having free parking was a major convenience. The hotel also provided complimentary tea and coffee, which was a nice touch, although some areas needed tidying up.

I had a pretty good stay at Highfield House Hotel. The beds were super comfy, and I enjoyed the breakfast spread. The location is great, being close to local amenities, but the hotel could really use some updating as some areas look a bit tired. Overall, I found it to be decent for the price, but missing a bar or restaurant on-site was a bit of a letdown.
Rooms
7.0
My room was clean and spacious, but it could definitely use some updates. Some areas looked tired, especially the bathroom with cracked tiles. I appreciated the quietness, though.
Service
8.0
The staff were friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with a smile. They even opened breakfast early for me to grab a coffee. I felt well taken care of during my stay.
Location
9.0
The location is excellent, just a short walk to the high street and close to Paultons Park. Plus, I found a nice pizza spot for dinner nearby, which was a bonus!
Dining

Breakfast had a good variety, but no restaurant or bar on-site was a bummer. There’s a restaurant next door offering a discount for hotel guests, but it wasn’t kid-friendly.
Facilities

Free parking and good WiFi were definite perks. The hotel had everything I needed for a comfortable stay, even if the decor felt a bit outdated.

I had mixed feelings about my stay at Highfield House Hotel. The location near the University of Southampton was excellent, making it convenient for my visit. However, the condition of the hotel and the overall experience left much to be desired, especially regarding the breakfast and room maintenance. The hospitality from the staff was commendable, which offered a silver lining during my stay. ☹️
Rooms
5.0
The room I stayed in had a damp smell and was uncomfortably cold due to a faulty radiator. Despite attempts by the staff to assist with a portable heater, it was a challenging night. The decor felt dated and needed a refresh.
Service
5.0
The staff was friendly and genuinely tried to help with issues like the heating problem. They provided a portable heater and additional blankets, but ultimately, my comfort was not fully addressed.
Location

The hotel's location is perfect for anyone visiting the University of Southampton. It's surrounded by pubs, restaurants, and shops, making it easy to access local amenities.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was disappointing; the items seemed overcooked and unattractive. I couldn't get a decent start to my day with such poor quality. I would recommend searching for breakfast elsewhere.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel has decent parking facilities, which is a bonus. However, moving luggage up the narrow staircase felt problematic without an elevator.

My recent stay at Highfield House Hotel was quite mixed. The room was clean but overall felt tired and in need of an update. The check-in process wasn’t smooth, which added some stress to my arrival. However, the friendly reception staff and decent breakfast helped redeem the experience somewhat.
Rooms
5.0
The room I stayed in was clean, airy, and bright, but definitely tired and in need of updating. Even more frustrating, I was disturbed by noise from neighboring rooms both nights, impacting my sleep significantly.
Service
5.0
While the reception staff were friendly and willing to assist, the check-in experience was quite painful as there was confusion over payments that left me feeling uneasy.
Location
8.0
The hotel's location suited my needs well, especially since it was near the university and allowed easy access to cafes and restaurants.
Dining

Breakfast had a good variety, with cooked items, croissants, and cereals, though the toaster didn't always work properly, which could be frustrating.
Facilities

The hotel had basic facilities, and while I missed a bar or restaurant on-site, there were dining options nearby that offered a 10% discount for hotel guests.

My stay at Highfield House Hotel was a bit of a mixed bag. While the location was convenient for my hospital visit, the overall condition of the hotel left much to be desired. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, which was a positive aspect, but I found the room itself was not as cozy as I had hoped, and the dining options were quite limited, leading to a rather disappointing experience overall.
Rooms
5.0
The room was clean but quite dated. The bed springs dug into me at night, making it hard to sleep well. There were cracks in the floor tiles and a musty smell coming from the bathroom, which didn't feel inviting. Plus, I had issues with hot water during my shower, which could take quite a while to heat up.
Service
6.0
The reception staff were friendly and went out of their way to assist me, which I appreciated. However, I felt the service could have been more attentive overall, especially when it came to handling requests like extra towels.
Location
7.0
Being close to the University was great for my needs, but I wouldn’t recommend it for other reasons as it feels like it could use an update. The signage was also hard to see when arriving, especially in the dark.
Dining
5.0
The breakfast was advertised as included, but I was charged extra for it. My partner thought the buffet was quite limited and lacking quality, which was disappointing given other reviews I had seen. Also, the toaster wasn't set up correctly, leading to burnt toast.
Facilities
5.0
I appreciated the free parking, which is really useful. However, the absence of an elevator and the pronounced damp smell in some areas of the hotel detracted from the overall experience.
